Goodbye Cheesecake, Hello Vape
There’s an old saying on Wall Street, ‘the trend is your friend’. When a stock goes up constantly, don’t fight it,
just go along for the ride.
Recently we can see that trend playing out in two of New York’s favorite restaurants. Lindy’s, a 96-year-old culinary icon famous for humongous slices of cheesecake. It will close on February 7. A year ago, the famed Carnegie Deli, known for its over-stuffed corned beef and pastrami sandwiches closed down after a 79-year-run. Two restaurants famous for big portions gone. Millennials would much rather indulge in a slice of five dollar a loaf artisan bread.
What’s even more surprising is this new breed of customers doesn’t smoke but loves to vape. Teenage vaping is on fire. Vaporizers and e-cigarettes heat substances to the point just below combustion, allowing the consumable to release steam or vapor. Since there is no burning and no smoke, this is seen as a healthier alternative to cigarettes.
According to the New York post a survey found “that 35.8% of US high school seniors seniors have tried vaping compared to the 26.6 who have lit up a cigarette.” Like all trends it’s all about the customers. They are always fickle and they are always the boss.
